🍂 Thanksgiving Is Just Around the Corner!

Did You Know...?

Thanksgiving is a tradition celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. It originated in 1621 when the Pilgrims and Native Americans shared a harvest feast. Today, it's celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the U.S. and the second Monday of October in Canada.

Traditionally, families gather to enjoy a meal featuring turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. It's a time to reflect on gratitude and spend time with loved ones.

😄 Personal Milestones

Ems': I signed up for a singing competition 🤯 Every year, the Nikkei Community (Japanese emigrants and their descendants) organizes a team singing competition. Each team, with 3 to 5 members, has each member sing solo. The top 3 scores from each team are combined to determine the final team ranking. Additionally, a few standout singers are selected to advance to the next round, a solo competition held every 2-3 years. Winning this second competition earns you a spot to compete against other Nikkei singers from the region!

This year, my team won! And, guess what? I was selected to move on to the next competition! 🌟 I know, it’s wild!

Den's: Over the holiday weekend in late October, my boyfriend and I took a trip to Mar del Plata—the birthplace of Dibu Martinez, the Argentine soccer team’s goalkeeper. We had an incredible time exploring the city, soaking up the sunny days, and savoring the local cuisine.

Aleja's: I went on a trip to Mexico with my husband and his uncle, who lives there. The food was amazing—Mexican food might just be my favorite! We had a great time, explored incredible places, and had the chance to meet Agus, such a wonderful person. We went for breakfast and had an awesome time ❤️ 🇲🇽 🌮

Carlos': We went rock climbing in Canchacalla.

Steph, Majo, Den & Agus': We finally met in person! The Argentina and Mexico teams came together to chat, get to know each other, share ideas, and collaborate. What an amazing day!

We then went over to Tanta to grab lunch. Majo and Steph ordered typical Peruvian food such as ceviche, anticucho, lomo saltado, papa a la huancaína, and for dessert, a lucumita cake. It was delicious!

💬 What hobby or skill are you learning or want to learn? I started ceramic modeling a year ago, and I absolutely love it! I’m amazed at how good I’ve become at creating things with my hands. Over the next few years, I’d love to add pottery to my classes—it's another creative process that requires a much deeper spiritual connection with the craft.

💬 Would you rather speak all languages or be able to talk with animals? Why? I’d love to talk with animals! This way, if any of my pets are hurt or unwell, they could tell me what's wrong.

💬 What’s one piece of advice you would give your younger self? Believe in yourself more. Answer those questions you were too embarrassed to respond to—many of those answers were right all along.

💬 If you could live in any TV show, which one would it be? Definitely Friends! I love the fashion, the era, and, of course, New York City. I’d love to laugh with Chandler and Joey, shop with Rachel, cook with Monica, have quirky talks with Phoebe, and show Ross how to use suntan lotion.

💬 What’s one goal, personal or professional, that you're currently working towards? I’m focusing more on fitness. I just started Pilates, and by the end of the year, I want to start my "running era."

💬 What's a small thing that always makes your day better? This year, I started waking up several hours before work. I’m not a morning person, but I love having breakfast in the sunshine, especially with my girl Palta!
